YesJob Category Staff/AdministratorPosition/Job Summary Residence Directors are responsible for the overall coordination of the student development and housing component of 1 to four residence halls and/or apartment complexes accommodating [removed phone] students. Specific duties include selecting, training, and supervising 11-15 Resident Assistants; coordinating and implementing programs; enforcing College regulations; serving as a judicial hearing officer; overseeing 1 or more Residential Learning Communities or 1st-Year Residential Background (FYRE) halls; chairing departmental committees; and providing personal counseling. Residence Directors may also participate in an aux work assignment in another office within Student Affairs after 1yr of employment.The appointment is a twelve-month, live-in position. Summer assignment in Orientation, Room Assignments, Summer Conferences, Operations, or Staff Development is required. Compensation is competitive and includes a furnished apartment, full meal plan during the academic year, and benefits package. The appointment is effective July 29, 2013.Position/Position assignments 1. Supervise undergraduate students working as Resident Assistants in College residence halls and/or on-campus apartments.2. Work to implement goals and priorities as outlined in the departmental master plan including student development and operations components, in assigned residence halls. Provide leadership for Resident Assistant staff in setting goals for the year.3. Recruit, select, and train Resident Assistants; monitor work performance for accuracy and completeness in accordance with Department and College goals and objectives; ensure compliance of staff with established Residential Life policies and procedures.4. Chair/co-chair and serve on departmental committees.5. Provide leadership for Residential Learning Communities and/or the 1st Year Residential Background, if applicable.6. Develop and implement in-staff training and development programs in conjunction with Area Coordinator.7. Evaluate the performance of various Residential Life staff members including Resident Assistants, colleagues, supervisor and committee members on a regular basis and during the yearly departmental evaluation process.8. Serve as primary personal counseling resource for staff and students in dealing with specific residence hall problems including roommate conflicts, personal and emotional problems, diversity issues, and other developmental concerns. Be cognizant of the special needs and concerns of minority students and initiate programming and other efforts in the halls to address these needs and concerns.9. Develop a familiarity with campus and community resources to ensure timely, efficient referrals when appropriate.10. Establish and maintain communication with students living in the residence halls through individual contacts, meetings, and discussions. Serve as a mediator/facilitator when necessary to provide resolutions for interpersonal conflicts between students. Coordinate implementation of roommate agreement and community agreement and work with RAs to establish community standards.Position/Job assignments continued Position/Job Requirements Bachelor?s degree and previous graduate or professional Student Affairs background required. Strong interpersonal, written and spoken communication abilities, demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities are required. The incumbent will also be required to live in the residence hall twelve months per year. Master?s degree in Student Personnel or related position and/or previous graduate or professional work background in Residence Life preferred.Department description The Ithaca College residence hall system houses approx 4,400 students in 27 residence halls and 2 on-campus apartment areas.
